Happy Halloween!

As always, Halloween was a big hit around campus as everyone got to dress up as their favorite superheroes, princesses, and ghouls! We celebrated with a small on-campus parade, a fair share of trick-or-treating, and wrapped things up with a festive pizza lunch.

An extra-special thanks goes out to all those parents who volunteered to help make the event the great success that it was!

(People lined up far and wide to join in all the fun!)

"Arr, matey... where's me pizza?"

Extra Curricular Activities

After a smashing start to the school year, we've opened the door to some after-school activities and are terribly pleased with the response we're getting. Children are happily engaged in swimming, Spanish, arts & crafts, and yoga classes that are being offered Tuesday-Thursday between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.

Anyone interested in learning more about our offerings simply need call the main office at (305) 893-9876.

Take a brief peek at some shots from our yoga class below:

The Garden Bears FRUIT!

... or, well, uh ... salsa(!) in any case.

It's nice being able to watch the children follow a lesson through to a tasty conclusion.

(If only I could figure out a way to get the children to grow some steak and potatos, lunch would take on an entirely new spin around here...)

And Garden We Do...

Not quite leaving things to April's showers (or even the prospect of May's promised flowers), Von Wedel students took matters into their own hands and have been hard at work on a happy gardening project in our east field.

Take a peek at some of our progress below:

Keep up the great work, everyone!

Showing Your Love!

"I love you!"

Let your youngster feel your love with these heartfelt gestures:

* Mail him a note from your office to your house.

* Make snack time special by eating together on a park bench or in a blanket fort.

* When your child is playing, ask if you can play, too.

* Pull your youngster onto your lap, and tell her the story of the day she was born.

* Let him hear you say nice things about him to others.

* Start each day fresh. Even though your child misbehaved yesterday, let her know today will be great.

Easter Fun!

Hey everyone!

We just wanted to thank all of those who attended our Easter Hunt on Friday, April 3, and especially those who donated their time (and their jelly beans!) to the children's fun. It's always wonderful when we get the chance to come together as a community, and this is just another example of the Von Wedel spirit that we are so fond of.

(The teachers did their share too, but we don't want them knowing how much they're appreciated. Shhh. Don't tell!)

For those of you unable to join in, this is a bit of what you missed:

The event was an overwhelming success, and we hope everyone involved had as much fun as we did here at school. Until next time...

The Economy, Crime, and You

February 23, 2009

Dear Parent(s)

Reports continue to flood the news about the changing state of the US Economy and the rippling effect it has on our credit, mortgages, jobs, and the like. Meanwhile, as all these spiral in and take their toll, we may also have to come to grips with another possible impact the current recession will have on us all: increased crime.

As unemployment climbs, prices rise, and widespread law-enforcement budget cuts take place, we need to be extra-careful about our belongings – whether in the home, the car, our purses, or our wallets. Recent reports in the Miami Herald and elsewhere are suggesting that the months ahead may see a stark increase in petty crimes, and caution us all to not only be wary of our surroundings, but to do our best to keep criminally-minded temptation at bay.

Tony Pugh goes into some detail about this possible correlation in his syndicated article, “Rising Crime Could Be the Recession’s Next Effect.”

We at Von Wedel encourage everyone to stay safe, and hope to see us all through the current downturn with as little pain as possible.
